GABRIELLE RUSSELL is a UK screenwriter and film director.
Graduate of the National Film and Television School, Gabrielle has made an impressive portfolio of award winning shorts and television drama.
Gabrielle’s forthcoming debut Deer Woman Child starring Keeley Forsyth will be released in 2021. This is the first in a trilogy of films that take inspiration from female characters from folklore and re-imagine them living in the present day.
Her second feature The Reckoning of Erin Morrigan starring Olwen Fouéré, is in production with Green Film Productions filming summer 2022.
‘The Folklore Trilogy’ is three feature films based on female archetypes from indigenous folklore: Sava - the Deer Woman, The Morrigan - the Phantom Queen, and Blodeuedd- the Flower Maiden are re-imagined as real women in contemporary stories of birth, sex, and death.
These original narratives are built from layers of myth and legend and paint a beguiling portrait of three very different women at precipitous times in their lives; presenting intimate observations of scarred emotional landscapes, weaving a web between inner and outer worlds, casting an esoteric and intuitive eye over the land, it’s ghosts and gods so that they are perceived in mysterious numinous beauty.
