THE REED FLUTE
In Norwich, a widower Richard (59) retreats from the effort of rebuilding his life by retracing the countryside journeys he made with his wife, pathways that become routes to unexpected meetings and events.
Khadija (13) arrives in the UK from Iraq traumatised and exhausted after an arduous journey. She is reunited with her ailing Grandfather and they stay together in the house of her cousin Sarwat in Great Yarmouth. But her new circumstances are confusing and uncertain causing Khadija to take drastic action. In midwinter, Khadija and her Grandfather set out together on foot, along the bank of the River Yare, seeking sanctuary in the city of Norwich more than forty miles away.
As they make their perilous journey upstream, the fugitive pair are nourished as much by the slow river and nature surrounding them as by memory, hope and faith.
The beautiful Norfolk Broadlands landscape is the setting where their stories entwine and their lives are transformed.
Feature film adaptation of a novel by Tessa West.
